Don’t Flip Your Lid!

When it comes to caps, there are certain rules of etiquette to follow.  You should take your cap off as a gesture of respect when talking with your grandparents or reciting the Pledge of Allegiance. You always take your cap off when entering a church, synagogue or mosque. And you certainly wouldn’t wear a cap in the shower, unless you were looking for an unusual selfie to post on Instagram!

On the other hand, if you’re going outdoors to relax by the pool, mow the lawn, play baseball, or ride a scooter, wearing a comfortable, well-made cap with large brim makes a great deal of sense.

First of all, a high-quality cap protects your scalp from the sun’s UV rays, which can damage the fragile skin even if you have a full head of hair. (We won’t mention the higher risk from the sun if you have a receding hairline or the beginning of a bald spot.)

Wearing a cap is also more comfortable than going hat-less. The brim protects your eyes from harsh glare, letting you see more clearly. If the rain starts to fall, you won’t feel those drops on your head. And any time the temperature dips a few degrees below normal – a nice cap will keep your head warm, so you can enjoy being outside.

A cap is also very stylish. You can wear the brim to the front, the back or to the side, depending on your frame of mind.  Finally, a cap with an interesting phrase like “Tequila Piscina” can also be a nice conversation starter.

Let’s say you’re out walking the dog and strike up a conversation with your neighbor. After you exchange a few pleasantries, like, “What a beautiful dog!” it’s a natural step to ask about your cap: “Is Tequila Piscina a drink? Is it a fish?” And you can have the perfect answer ready: “Actually, Tequila Piscina is the coolest hat around – and it’s perfect for me!”
